well......hit the park this afternoon....sure hate that the days are growing shorter...but LOVE the coolness that hits as soon as the sun starts to set...I ran further today..5 miles........well...really i wogged around the place...but that's ok...it felt better..and I know that I am getting stronger everytime I run.....
slick rick from work made derogatory remarks as I got out of my car.....his usual teasing is at least consistent...his boys are on the cross country team that Russ was on last year ...so he is supervising.....and I make sure to remind him of that fact...It makes me nervous to see others that have not been around me running....sounds so stupid...but I love the cover of the morning and the fact that I can lose myself in the music and my thoughts....it is good to run with someone on the long runs and I have been encouraging my running buddy in Jackson to get with it..cause I need some help to run longer distances....she says she will....time will tell.......I hope that she is reading this......
the curves and hills in the park are challenging to say the least....I love the trees there tho...and today I spotted a doe and her babies eating at the edge of a field....there is all kinds of wildlife and secrets from the war that was fought and lost .....over the years I have seen the park change a lot....as a child we used to bring relatives here to see the monuments and probably to get the energy out of 5 wiggling children......it encompassed much of the downtown area of Vicksburg.. I remember standing in front of cannons and generals on horses taking pictures ....looking so excited to be there......now, some of those same roads that we traveled on are part of the city roads and there are businesses and homes dotting its edges instead of the many cannons and monuments......
we used it for a recreational park.....altho it was not encouraged....when I was 14 I had a friend who had this old red and white car....I think it was a chevy....all i can say...is that it was built like a tank and there was no way we could hurt it....He would take a group of us to the park and let us drive around...we checked out the 5 faces...some old generals or something in this concrete wall..that someone had put that glow in the dark paint...so when you shined your headlights on it...well..you know.............the place was always 'haunted'....and most of us had seen or heard tales of the old war heroes lurking around...it was spooky......it still is......those dang monuments feel as if they are watching every move......but I like the quiet and the many old trees that stretch out over everything...
As I wound my way around curves and up horrible hills.....I reminded myself that the run tomorrow morning is going to be a breeze.....I visit with several more acquaintances and end the run in a pool of huff puff and sweat....LOL.....hey....it got done...even if it wasn't pretty...... ;-)
hope you are running...
